Dr Adnan Nadir is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in Birmingham, based privately at The Harborne Hospital and The Priory Hospital. He graduated with first-class honours and was awarded 'Best Graduate of the Year' for his primary medical (MBBS) degree, before completing Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 2006. Between 2008 and 2011 he undertook clinical research with the British Heart Foundation and the University of Dundee, investigating novel methods of identifying silent heart disease.
He trained in clinical cardiology across the West Midlands before moving to New York, where he worked at the prestigious Mount Sinai Heart Hospital in Manhattan. There he received advanced training in highly specialised, minimally invasive heart procedures for complex valve conditions, including TAVI and MitraClip. He returned to Birmingham as a Consultant Cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2017, and was subsequently appointed Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham. He went on to introduce the region's first transcatheter valve procedures and now leads a high-volume structural heart programme.
Dr Nadir's approach balances prevention with intervention: his first priority is helping patients reduce their risk of heart disease through lifestyle, risk-factor management and early detection, while offering access to the latest minimally invasive treatment options — for both coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease — when intervention is needed. His clinical interests include TAVI, TEER (MitraClip), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve therapies, PTMC, and paravalvular leak closure, alongside complex coronary intervention.
He served as Cardiology Lead for the Birmingham & Solihull Integrated Care System for five years, helping shape cardiovascular care across the region. He trains cardiologists, fellows and medical students from around the world through observerships, electives and fellowships, and is Course Director of TIUK, the UK's dedicated tricuspid intervention educational meeting. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, and the European Society of Cardiology.
His research has been published in leading journals including The Lancet, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, and the European Journal of Heart Failure.
